What we do
We are not a general contractor who also patches brick. The building envelope is the entire business — which is why the details hold up.

Repointing, brownstone restoration, lintels and chimneys.

The repair work your FISP report calls for, done properly.

Brownstone stoop restoration, DOT violation removal, bluestone.

Flat roofs, coatings, drainage and keeping water out of the wall.
Recent work
One property, photographed at each stage. Treads worn through and joints open; cut back to sound material and rebuilt to the original profile; finished square and sound. Same house, three visits from our camera.

Featured case study
Upper East Side Historic District, Manhattan · August – September 2026

An institutional townhouse that had to stay open while we worked. Marble entrance steps cleaned back and redundant anti-slip strips removed; the side service stair taken out and rebuilt in bluestone; the areaway limestone washed down and the court repaved.
Masonry repairs were made in JAHN restoration mortar — matched to the stone rather than stronger than it.
Why Bricktime
Masonry is learned on scaffolding, not in a classroom. The trade came to us from the generation before — more than thirty-five years of it — and that is where the judgement comes from: which mortar, how far to cut back, and when a wall is telling you something.
We are not a general contractor who also patches brick. Masonry, facade, stoops, sidewalks and roofing are the whole business, which is why our crews are fast at them and our details hold up.
Water rarely respects trade boundaries. When the same crew handles the roof, the parapet, the pointing and the drainage, nobody gets to blame the other guy when a stain comes back.
We work in New York's historic districts, where repair in kind is the rule: matched mortar, matched stone, matched profile. Get that wrong and the repair is visible from across the street — or it takes the original face off with it.
Photographs of conditions before, during and after — the record you need for a board, a managing agent, an engineer or an insurer.
How it works
We come out, look at the actual condition, and tell you what is failing and what is fine. No charge, no pressure.
You get an itemised scope and price in writing — materials, access, permits and schedule. Not a number on the back of a card.
Sheds, scaffold, protection of entrances and plantings, and any DOB or DOT permits are handled before work starts.
The crew works to the scope and photographs the work as it goes — especially anything that gets covered back up.
Where we work
FAQ
Yes. We come out, look at the condition in person, and give you a written scope and price at no charge. Exterior work cannot be honestly quoted from a photograph.
We carry full general liability and workers' compensation cover, and we will send certificates of insurance directly to you, your board or your managing agent before any work starts — naming whichever parties they need to name.
We handle the permits associated with the work we perform — sidewalk sheds, scaffold and DOT sidewalk permits. Engineering filings such as a FISP report must come from a licensed professional engineer or registered architect, and we will coordinate directly with yours.
Yes — a lot of our work is in designated historic districts, where the rule is repair in kind: match the material, the profile and the finish so the street elevation reads unchanged. Note that work affecting the exterior of a landmarked building generally needs Landmarks Preservation Commission approval before it starts. We build that into the schedule and work to whatever your architect or expediter files.
Yes. We are set up for the documentation that managed buildings require: scopes that map to an engineer's report, certificates of insurance naming the right parties, and progress photography for shareholder meetings.
Emergency and unsafe conditions we protect immediately. Scheduled restoration work depends on the season and the queue — masonry and concrete need workable temperatures to cure properly, so spring through autumn books up. Call early.
It depends entirely on scope, access and how much has to be rebuilt versus repaired. What we will not do is give you a low number to win the job and then find extras once the scaffold is up. The written scope is the price.
Free site visit, honest assessment, written scope and price. If the work can wait, we will tell you that too.
